Does anyone know what the history of the diamond engagement ring is? - antique looking engagement rings

I'm curious because I looked at engagement rings antique and I noticed that many colored stones instead of diamonds. Now I have given buy third diamond engagement ring in antique style, because it is much nicer. I am a little curious, but as to when the diamond has the "traditional" stone.

Queen Victoria of England was the first time, I think. Costumes have changed the traditional, like the white dress and veil style Catherdal. But before that I had not read much about the diamond rings.

Diamonds have the "precious" stones in the last 150 years by the family of De Beers and the South African diamond cartel.
